First, Gather Your People

Invite family, friends, coworkers to gather. We suggest inviting no more than six people including yourself.

We find gathering the same folks every month strengthens our bond in unexpected ways!

The Food!

Food is elemental to how we connect as humans and BreakBread is a journey meant to be enjoyed over food. (Food is optional but, after all, it’s why we named it BreakBread!) Whether it’s a pot of soup and a loaf of bread, potluck, takeout, cheese and crackers, or just tea and coffee food makes the BreakBread Journey (as well as life) more fun and nourishing.

What’s in the Box?

Pass out a Guidelines/Journey Map card Place the stack of Prompt Cards at the center of the table. Also you have the option to place the stack of Spark Cards at the center of the table if you’re using them for your journey. Read more about Spark Cards below.

Let the Booklet be Your Guide

Let the BreakBread Booklet that came in the box be your guide. Pages 1 through 17 is background and introductory material but you can skip to page 18 (Step 1 Welcome) and just get started.

There are eight steps to the BreakBread Journey outlined in the BreakBread Journey Booklet starting on page 18. Each step is outlined in the booklet and is meant to be read out loud. Either the host can do all the reading, or you can pass it around the table and share the reading.

Steps 1-5

Steps 1-5 set the stage for you to have a connected conversation. It’s where you set an intention, slow down, get present to yourself and the connections between you and everyone else, establish the Conversation Guidelines and choose a prompt for your journey.

The Conversation

Step 6 is the Conversation. It’s an hour long, you’ll need a timer and we encourage you to stick to one prompt.

Remember, BreakBread is not so much about finding answers to big questions but about seeing where big questions lead you and your friends, deepening old connections and creating new ones.

The Conversation with Spark Cards

Alternately, Step 6a is for the Conversation with Spark Cards where you might choose to use the Spark Cards. The spark cards help you show up and play with conversation in new ways to deepen and spark the fire of conversation. You would use them if you want to bring the conversation to a new level or if you’re with people just getting to know each other or who might not be as comfortable in conversation.
